Disneyland Employee Dies After Falling from Moving Golf Cart

A Disneyland employee died after falling from a moving golf cart in the backstage area of the Southern California theme park, authorities said Saturday.

Anaheim police reported that the incident occurred on Wednesday morning. The woman, identified as Bonnye Mavis Lear of Fullerton, fell from the golf cart and struck her head. She was transported to a local hospital and died from her injuries on Friday.

Bonnye Lear, 60, worked as an administrator at Disneyland's Club 33 for 24 years. She was riding in the rear-facing seat of a new golf cart with a coworker when the cart hit a bump, causing her to fall.

Ken Potrock, president of Disneyland Resort, expressed condolences and said the company is focused on supporting her family and coworkers during this time. "We are heartbroken by the loss of Bonnye," Potrock said. "We are offering our sincere condolences to everyone who cared for her."

The Anaheim Police Department is investigating the incident, which they are currently calling a traffic collision. Other Disneyland employees have described the driving as "reckless" and stated that Lear's fall could have been avoided.

Lear's coworker, Rae Delgado, a Disney California Adventure attractions cast member, mentioned that the handrail Lear tried to grab gave way, contributing to the fall. Delgado emphasized that the new golf cart should not have had such issues and blamed the driver for reckless behavior.

Police and Disneyland officials are working to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident. Disneyland management has requested that employees refrain from discussing the details publicly. Disneyland employees have voiced concerns over safety and the condition of the new golf cart involved in the incident.

Anaheim police Sgt. Jon McClintock confirmed that traffic detectives are investigating the accident. The investigation aims to determine the exact cause of the incident and whether any safety protocols were breached.

Bonnye Lear's death has sparked conversations about workplace safety and the importance of adhering to safety guidelines to prevent such tragic accidents. Disneyland is providing resources and support to Lear's family and coworkers during this difficult time.
