Mr. & Mrs. Smith Season 2 Delayed By Prime Video

Prime Video’s Popular Spy Series Faces Delay

Amazon’s hit spy-drama Mr. & Mrs. Smith, starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine in its first season, has officially been delayed. According to reports, the production of Season 2 has been put on indefinite hold due to unresolved cast issues and scheduling conflicts.

What Happened After Season 1?

The first season premiered in February 2025 and quickly became one of Prime Video’s Top 5 debuts in the U.S. It also earned 16 Emmy nominations, winning two awards. The finale ended with John and Jane Smith in a deadly gunfight, leaving fans eager to know their fate.

Season 2 Cast & Updates

  • Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets) and Mark Eydelshteyn (Anora) announced as the new Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
  • Rumored guest stars included Lily-Rose Depp, Francesca Scorsese, Levon Hawke, Wagner Moura, and Gael Garcia Bernal, but deals were never finalized.
  • Showrunner Francesca Sloane has signed an HBO deal and will also write Big Little Lies Season 3 opener.

Why The Delay?

The season was set to begin filming in Fall 2025, but due to casting problems and behind-the-scenes issues, it has been postponed indefinitely. Pre-production may now start at the end of 2025 with filming in 2026.

Impact On California Tax Credit

Amazon MGM Studios had secured a $22.4M tax credit to shift filming from New York to Los Angeles. However, the delay may risk this incentive as projects must begin within 18 months. Studios may reapply if the window expires.

Future of the Series

With one-year contracts for Glover and Erskine, the show might adopt an anthology format, bringing new characters each season. Amazon hasn’t confirmed this yet.

“Fans will have to wait longer to find out what happens next in Mr. & Mrs. Smith. For now, the future of Season 2 remains uncertain.”

Conclusion

The delay of Mr. & Mrs. Smith Season 2 is disappointing for fans. Still, New Regency and Amazon hope to revive the show in 2026.
